Wakeboarding is a sport that has skyrocketed into popularity, being a combination of skiing and snowboarding. In this sport a rider mounts a wakeboard that is connected to the back of a motorized boat and literally rides the wake. It sounds fun and it certainly is, but you need to remember that with any extreme sport, there are extreme safety measures that need to be taken into account.

The first thing you need to take into account are the safety measures to take when you are the driver of the boat. When you sit behind the wheel you are responsible for the lives of everyone on that boat. That being said you should never drive a boat while intoxicated. Just as if you were driving a car, it can be even more dangerous on a boat.

You need to make sure that everyone on the boat is wearing the proper safety equipment, even you. Life jackets are a plus, and you'll want to make sure that you get the best life jackets you can. It's important that your life jackets are decent because if you are ever knocked unconscious you'll want to make sure you stay afloat during the entire ordeal.

On that note you will also want to make sure that everyone wears helmets. You will be traveling at high speeds and there's a chance that there will be an accident. The last thing you want is someone hitting their head and ending up with a concussion. If an incident ever does occur when someone is wearing a helmet you'll want to check it over for cracks. If it has any then you'll likely need to replace it because it probably won't work quite as well again.

Boating laws need to be observed. This is probably the most important of all. Make sure you are well versed in all of the laws before you even go out, and you can likely obtain a handbook detailing all of these laws before you actually set foot or hull on the lake.

Never do anything reckless, while it might seem funny at the moment it won't seem funny later on when someone is dead. This is a fun sport, don't get me wrong, but you need to play it safe at all times and follow all of the existing watercraft regulations for the body of water you are on. Along with that, make sure no one else on the boat is doing anything reckless either! Make sure everyone is sitting down so you can see the boarder clearly! You need to know if anything goes wrong back there.

For the record, even if anything does go wrong try not to make a sudden stop. The reasons for this are fairly obvious, so you should simply avoid doing it! There's nothing wrong with having a little bit of fun as long as no one's life is put in danger.

So have fun, be happy, and enjoy this wonderful sport. There really isn't anyone who doesn't enjoy waterboarding, so get out there and become a part of this wonderful sport. Have fun and stay safe!
