You turn on the news and hear another company is downsizing, or worse yet, going out of business. You talk to your neighbor who has just been told to clean out his desk because his responsibilities are now going to be part of the overseas department. The newspapers report on the increase in health care, gas prices and taxes. You know you must take action because the world of business just doesn’t work like it did 20, 15 or even 5 years ago.
Because you are also someone who is proactive, self-assured and a person who still believes that personal goals and dreams can be a reality, you consider the amazing opportunity that becoming an entrepreneur offers to you. You feel so much more in control when your future is in your hands and not based on decisions you have no control over. The question is not whether entering the world of multilevel marketing is the right decision; the question is which company offers the best opportunity for you.
MLM companies can be vastly different in a number of areas that range from the obvious, such as products and compensation plans, to the more philosophical like the culture and philosophies that are the company’s foundation. For all the differences between companies, there are several characteristics that the best should share.
A strong company has experience. Research how long this company has been in business. While there is no magic number, it would be important to choose a company that has proven itself in the marketplace. Companies that have stood the test of time should have a strong financial base. When young yet promising companies grow rapidly, this can put a strain on their ability to finance that growth.
A solid company has experienced, creative and professional management. One way to investigate this is to check whether or not the company you’re considering is a member of the Direct Selling Association or the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations. Membership in these associations requires that the company meets strict guidelines and adheres to the association’s code of ethics.
The company’s lifeblood is its distributors. Without you, there is no business. How much does the company value people like you? What kind of commitment has it made to improving the product, training the business builders and helping people who have made this company their business serve their clients? Look at the tools available through the company. Professional, attractive and informative material that is also affordable should be at your disposal. On going training and support is also essential if you are to be successful.
You can have the most ethical, principled company that has power-point presentations, flash-presentations, brochures, flip-charts and the best website possible, but if you don’t have a product that people want to buy, all the support and high-gloss will not do it for you. Make sure this product is of high quality and consumable. It also needs to meet the needs of an expanding market.
It always helps if you can be a product of the product. Do you love what you sell? If not, how effective will you be? When you are passionate about something, you speak from your heart. Choose a company that has products you would use even if you were not in that business. If you do that, you will naturally promote the product. When you talk to people about what you love, they will hear the genuine passion in your words. You’re not selling as much as you are offering others the opportunity to use quality products that could change their lives. You are filling a void for others, whether that is though products that ameliorate issues to offering the business opportunity that is the answer to financial problems and the chance for others to live the best life possible.
The beauty of being an entrepreneur is that it starts out as one thing: an alternative to what you have now and the opportunity to realize a life that may now only be a dream and transforms into something else: the opportunity to help others do the same. This opportunity is something to value and treasure. You are in exactly the right place at the right time. The future is entirely in your hands. If you have the passion, you have many opportunities to choose from and living the best life possible is a choice you can make.
The fact that you’re investigating the home-based business industry is a sign that you still have dreams and trust in those dreams.
