From a very young age I wanted to own my own establishment. The prospect to be my own boss and the rewards and benefits that come with the job. I had the chance to do this so grabbed it with both hands. Starting my own business was a great opportunity. Earning excellent money, working fewer hours and supervising my own team of staff. Little did I know that having your own staff can be so much trouble? I was soon to see this.!

Stock takes are a standard procedure for every establishment. Mine was taken every month. It was a simple system of just counting the stock in which you own and comparing them to your record sheets. Every month it would take me about an hour to do until suddenly one week my stock did not match my info. This had never come up before. They would sometimes be a little down but not this much. I recounted just to make sure I was not wrong and I was not, they were down by a lot!

My employees were dedicated, hard working people, make no mistake. But I knew one of them had taken what they should not have. This was not an error in accounting. I had a pretty good understanding of who was working for me and what their individual character was all about. I narrowed it down to two people that might be pocketing from me. The question was how can I catch them in the act??
