( I've fallen and I cant get up!).
The easiest way to light these areas are by using solar lighting. There is no need for wiring or an electrician, and no electric bills ( the best reason why I use them ) . Just place the landscape lights in direct sunlight (at least 2-3 hours) and at least 8 - 12 inches away from each other. Another great idea is step lights to light up your steps, making them many times safer than a dim/dull lit stair.
Another area is the driveway, For my home this is number one on my list. I don't know what your visitors are like but my in laws really scare me backing out of my driveway. Most of the times I can't look, it's like watching my 6 year old drive his toy jeep. They start out ok and then they stop open the door to look behind them ( as if their car doesn't come with rear view mirrors), they then travel back down to the bottom to try again ( did I mention my driveway is straight and maybe 50 ft long. ) This is when it gets the funniest, you hear them yelling at each other, ( as if one drives better than the other) then up again they go with another try and just when I think “Hey I think they are going to finally get out of here”, they start swerving to the left side and up and over the landscape rocks and bark mulch out to the road and other side of the street over my neighbors beautiful front yard ( who pays a fortune for professional landscapers and underground watering ) As if that isn't bad enough that you want to shut all the lights off in your house and pretend that no one's home , they stop roll all their windows down, start honking the horn (a lot ) like they can't believe that it actually works , yelling “talk to you tomorrow”! Now my husband and I want to crawl under a rock , but are glad once again this ordeal is over 'till next time.
We have found a solution to this, it is solar disc lighting that can be driven over by vehicles! Easy to install and light up the whole drive way edge . ( which is very important to us , knowing how our visitors drive, they would not last long ) Solar Flush mount disc lights are so nice! They come in many colors and finishes. Just place as far apart as needed and secure with four special screws.
Lastly, every home needs lighting in the back yard, where most do their outdoor living, doing some kind of lighting will deter intruders, make it look like someone is home or awake, intruders do not like an audience when they are trying to take what your hard earned money has bought.. An easy way is solar spot lights that scare them , they automatically activate when someone gets in the range of the sensor, solar post lights for the deck or patio. These are some ideas for keeping your home and family safe.
