A friend of mine has been working at his office for the last two years. It's a well paying job with real potential. He's unmarried and ready to find a good woman, so he's making an effort to look for a good woman. Since he's a regular listener to Dr. Laura, his standards are high. No time to waste on anything less! But what does this have to do with an air purifier?
To make a long story short he had begun to notice that one of his colleagues is quite attractive - not only that, but she's also a hard worker, kind and, more importantly, she isn't a gossip.
So anyhow, when she brought a small, portable air purifier to the office and my friend was somewhat interested. You know the sort of thing I mean - it is one of those electrical air purifiers with a motor that turns a little blade within it. You pour the perfume into a bowl with water, set the cap topped with the pump and it's ready to do its job. It goes buzzing away, perpetually purifying the air in the entire room.
Now, during lunch, this guy managed to work up the courage to go to his colleague’s cubicle to ask her where she picked up her clever air purifier. As he was walking towards her, she turned, took one look at him, and hastily turned to the air purifier to increase the amount of the lavender essence in it. My friend was really surprised. He had been thinking that she wanted to surround herself with perfume, which is why she brought the air purifier, while all the time, she was trying to eliminate a bad smell.
Not that this man was a stinky person by any standards! Of course in the summer, he sweats as much as the next man. But that was no reason for being so high-handed about it. Well, to continue with the story, he went on as though as he hadn't even seen her air purifier at all and right then and there resolved to buy himself some good smelling deodorant. And maybe some breath mints would be a good idea as well.
Despite his revulsion towards the air purifier from that day forward, he did begin to notice a lot more about that colleague. For one thing, the scent of the air purifier was a telling reflection of her moods. When she was happy and the whole world seemed joyous, she would make use of a heady citric scent. If she was broody and wanted to crawl under a rock, it would be lavender. And if she was in one of those unusual vague moods, the scent, too, would be vague. My friend said he later discovered that it was some sort of oriental creation that included ginseng and a whole lot of other interesting stuff.
Anyways, to make a long story short, this air purifier colleague started noticing that there was a distinct deodorant smell about my friend. And instead of a scared and horrified look, she started giving him a weak smile - at least sometimes. She eventually noticed that he's a good guy and she decided to risk going out with him. Irregularly at first, but more frequently later. They're still going strong. All thanks to a little air purifier.
